Everybody raves at length about the driving sequences and the copious violence in Drive, but rarely discussed is the very human element at the center of it all. Most of that talk goes in the way of the burgeoning romance between Driver and Irene, but I think his relationship with Benicio is where his compassion and humanity was really allowed to shine.
Agreed. The action sequences are done with more than sufficient virtuosity, but all those little moments (the toothpick really sticks out for me, partly cause they tag it with the bullet thing later) are what’s gonna make the movie a classic.
Thank god the kid was there to round out the character too. Instead of being the mysterious silent guy, sometimes he came across as a someone who may have a learning disability. Still one of the best of ‘11 though
